Rethinking My Artist Resolution 2025

It’s become a long-standing tradition to make resolutions for the upcoming year—crafting goals, setting wishes, and filling ourselves with a dreamy sense of possibility. Yet, as the year slips by, many of those resolutions fade, forgotten and replaced when the cycle begins again.

Over the years, I’ve realized the power of my thoughts—that what I wish for often comes true. That’s why my Artist Resolution 2025 feels so important. I’ve tried countless forms of manifesting my desires: wish maps, lists, notes, journaling. None of it seemed to be the perfect tool. Then it hit me—it’s not about the form. It’s about the content.

Breaking Free from the “Mind-Prison”

For much of my life, my wishes were shaped by societal norms. My mind was wired to think in terms of:

  • “Reach this number,”

  • “Own that thing,”

  • “Accomplish these goals.”

These were wishes designed for approval, for external validation—the kind others applaud and accept. But this realization changed everything: these weren’t my true desires. They were a kind of “mind-prison,” locking me into a pursuit of happiness dependent on other people’s recognition.

It’s a complicated route to happiness, isn’t it?

How Do I Want to Feel as an Artist?

“The aim of art is not to represent the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” – Aristotle

One day, a simple yet powerful question reframed everything: “How do you want to feel?”

This question stayed with me, reshaping how I saw resolutions.

  • How do I want to feel when I create a work? Connected with nature? Inspired? Enlightened? Fulfilled?

  • How do I want to feel when I share my art? Vulnerable but connected? Seen and understood?

  • And when I sell or expose my work, how do I want to feel? Accomplished? Grateful? Supported?

These questions became a joyful puzzle to piece together—one made of emotions, intentions, and meanings. Each answer felt like a small step toward defining what it truly means to be an artist on my own terms.

The Joy of Preserving Happiness

This idea takes me back to my childhood. I remember sitting outside on quiet nights, trying to paint the moon with gouache. My work was far from perfect, but that wasn’t the point. What I was really doing was capturing the feeling of that moment—the calmness, the wonder, the joy.

Even then, I was trying to preserve happiness through art, creating something tangible to remind me of fleeting emotions. That understanding feels like a key piece of the puzzle I’m building today. Art has always been my way of holding onto joy, even when it didn’t fully reflect the vision I had in my head.

My Resolution for 2025

So, here I am, stepping into 2025 with a resolution: to complete the puzzle of myself, piece by piece. My Artist Resolution 2025 is to define, in my own words and emotions, what it means to be a true artist. Through these reflections, my Artist Resolution 2025 becomes a deeply personal and transformative journey. Through art, I want to create ripples of happiness and connection—not just for myself, but for others. This is my year to collect, create, and inspire.
